February 2026 – Barrington

This walk saw last minute drama as three Pheasants withdrew within 24 hours of the start. Various reasons and excuses were tabled, but luckily for the remaining Pheasants the travel arrangements stayed intact and they were able to continue as planned for the 9am rendezvous.

The picturesue village of Barrington provided ample parking opportunities and the day began by tucking into Mario’s chorizo and black pudding suasage rolls while taking in the view of All Saints Church. With criticism of the recce for the previous walk, the pathfinder team had done their homework this time and all potential pitfalls were mitigated. The flock made light work of the first railway crossing and whizzed past Shepreth Wildlife Park, crossing the A10 safely while heading for Foxton.

Leaving Foxton presented an unseen problem as onward footpaths were blocked by housing, resulting in numerous attempts to reach the desired route before finally succeeding. This left the Rowley’s hill ascent to be tackled at pace by a few as the group then entered into Harston and a wet river section.

Drawing inspiration from the ongoing Winter Olympics, the Pheasants completed the walk with a dash to the finish where they were soon ensconced within the Royal Oak for refreshments, including lashings of pork crackling and halloumi fries while making the most of a roaring open fire.
