2024

2024 – Location map

Well, 2024 has been another eventful year in the world of the Dead Pheasants with 11 walks completed, covering 141 km in total, slightly down on 2023. Despite a challenging year away from walking the Pheasants managed to fit in walks, an away weekend for the 2nd year, as well as numerous social events. Tim, Mark and Mario all managed to better their personal best distances compared to previous years and we had good attendance throughout the year (averaging six participants) and although there wasn’t a walk where all Pheasants attended, two walks had eight attendees. Starting in Great Cressingham and ending in Dalham, the Pheasants continued to cover further parts of Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire along the way.

This year continued with another Pheasant away weekend in May to Winster, which was amazing and kept alive the tradition of having fabulous weather to boot. The location of Winster Hall was inspired and all the Pheasants enjoyed the decorated ceilings, Aga, manicured lawns, local pubs and sublime countryside. The remaining final stages of the Camino de London Pheasant were completed and the participants enjoyed an overnight stay in Walsingham to celebrate. As one Camino finished another took its place, as the Camino de Canary Pheasant started heading from Norwich to Walsingham along a pilgrimage route comprising three stages.

Pheasant Mario continued to work tirelessly on updating the website at elypheasants.com where one can find additional content and extra fun facts. As usual individual stats are given below together with a reminder of the walks and pubs (on the desktop version) along the way. This year’s voting will mostly take place online with the new Pheasant proportional representation voting system designed and tested by Mario, with the exception of the Photo and Event of the Year polls.

Next August will mark the five year anniversary since the first ever walk, and over 400km since we started recording our exploits back in 2022. All that’s left is to thank everyone for coming on the walks, volunteering to drive or researching a walk for us to undertake. Together we all make it work and have fun (and beer) along the way!
