July 2025 – Long Melford
The July walk kicked off with an early start to allow for the extra time required to get to Long Melford. Parking at the local nature reserve, a slightly worried Tim pointed out that the prospective walk length of 12.4km should be strictly observed and not exceeded. The trail set off eastwards and followed an anticlockwise loop out to Acton and back into Long Melford. This included two hair raising crossings (for those few with hair) of the A134 which the pheasants managed with dubious aplomb. Mark O treated the walkers to some champion ginger cake and there was even time to visit a car boot/vintage sale. Tim was suitably unimpressed by the extra 1.5km tacked onto the actual distance covered, but spirits were deservedly lifted by beer and pizza at the Nethergate brewery.
