August ’26

August 2026

The summer kept on scorching in August, much to the dismay of certain Pheasants, though the group refused to be deterred.

August started with a trip to an IMaX theatre, which was apparently the best place to watch Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey film. The purists in the flock are still debating whether three hours of wannabe Greeks running, screaming and dying justified the additional trek to Cambridge.

The middle of the month saw three intrepid Pheasants make the latest pilgrimage to Bury for a day out. Having set out at an earlier time and fully aware of the previous time when such an early start led to a certain Pheasant briefly resting his eyes (while snoring), additional events were added.

The planning nearly unravelled immediately when the troupe turned up 30 minutes early for opening time at the Rising Sun pub, requiring Pheasant Tom to magnanimously (if not quietly) take one for the team. After lunch there was a trip to Pot Black for an afternoon of pool designed to keep the group from falling asleep. This was aided by Mario who kept everyone awake purely through his pointed yet accurate observations about the hellish weather conditions in which they had trekked across town during the hottest part of the day.

All that remained was to see out the month with the 8th Pheasant walk, once again back in Dedham for part two of the “burger”. With plans made for a 9am start, three pheasants found themselves at an incorrect starting location, triggering a mixture of responses and eye rolling from the remaining group who were waiting to start.

The two groups would eventually reunite for cake on route and having sampled Dedham previously, made the correct choice to avoid the tourist trap of the Marlborough pub.

With only three more monthly walks to go and an away weekend for some, we will soon be prepping for the annual AGM and Christmas awards extravaganza.
